Israeli airstrikes and shelling pounded multiple locations in Gaza, killing dozens, including children.
The Israeli airstrike on a makeshift tent camp for displaced Palestinians in Rafah, Gaza, killed at least 45 people on Sunday night, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs based in the West Bank. The massacre is the largest in the city of Rafah in months, said Muhammad Al-Astal, a spokesman for the Palestinian Civil Defense in Rafah.
CNN reports that the airstrike triggered a fire that killed the victims. The Israeli military has not yet commented on the incident.
The airstrikes and shelling are part of a broader Israeli military operation that began on Sunday. The operation was launched in response to the capture of two Israeli-Argentine hostages by Palestinian militants.
