Gophers Without Justin Walley Aidan Gousby Against Iowa

Gophers without Justin Walley, Aidan Gousby against Iowa

Minnesota's two starting cornerbacks are "week-to-week" with injuries

The Gophers will be without starting cornerbacks Justin Walley and Aidan Gousby when they host Iowa on Saturday.

Walley is dealing with a hamstring injury, while Gousby is in concussion protocol.

Both players were injured in the Gophers' 31-26 win over Purdue on Saturday.

Walley has started all six games for the Gophers this season, and he leads the team with three interceptions.

Gousby has started five games this season, and he has recorded 20 tackles and one interception.

The Gophers will now be without their top two cornerbacks against an Iowa team that has one of the most experienced and productive passing attacks in the Big Ten.

Iowa quarterback Spencer Petras has thrown for 1,228 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, and he has a completion percentage of 65.6.

The Hawkeyes also have a talented group of wide receivers, led by Keaon Johnson, Nico Ragaini, and Arland Bruce IV.

The Gophers will need to find a way to slow down Iowa's passing attack without Walley and Gousby in the lineup.

One option is to move safety Tyler Nubin to cornerback, and insert true freshman Justin Williams at safety.

Another option is to start senior Coney Durr at cornerback, and move Thomas Rush to safety.

The Gophers could also choose to start a true freshman at cornerback, such as Phillip Howard or Jalen Glaze.

No matter who starts at cornerback, the Gophers will need to play well in the secondary to have a chance to beat Iowa on Saturday.
